ABOUT ME
Sophie Davenport, a Richmond, Virginia native, is a journalism student at the University of Georgia and a member of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. She’s pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism with minors in design and media and consumer economics, equipping her with expertise in video production, graphic design, and multimedia storytelling — as well as a strong understanding of consumer behavior and marketplace trends.

Since freshman year, Davenport has been an active member of The Red & Black, UGA’s nonprofit, student-run newspaper. She began as a culture contributor covering local music, art, and food before transitioning to the digital team as Audience Engagement Editor in fall 2023, curating newsletters and gaining hands-on experience in audience strategy and analytics.

Recognizing the power of video, she became the paper’s first Social Media Video Editor in January 2024, producing weekly Reels and TikToks across all desks. By spring 2025, she also took on the role of Social Media Manager, leading content strategy across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter. In fall 2025, she will expand the video team by training new contributors and opening space for more students to pitch and produce video stories.

In 2024, Davenport launched The Visibility Project, a solo freelance video storytelling initiative amplifying Richmond-based small businesses. Through this project, she partnered with White & Willow RVA to grow their Instagram impressions by 1,701%, reach over 4,800 accounts (93% non-followers), and create Reels with 2.5K+ views — all within one month. She has since expanded the initiative to include work with bbgb books, a beloved children’s bookstore in Carytown, and Richmond-based photographer Hadley Carter Miller.

Davenport has also served as a beat mentor at Grady College, helping students sharpen their skills in AP style, interviewing, and reporting. In spring 2025, she helped develop a UGA grant-funded instructional video series aimed at helping students strengthen their digital portfolios — a project that reflects her commitment to storytelling and elevating student journalism.

Her brand experience includes working as a collegiate ambassador for Amazon Prime Student and Alani Nutrition, where she produced Reels and TikToks, hosted large-scale sampling events, and applied real-world content strategy to marketing campaigns. She also collaborated with The Martin Agency on Princess & the Pea-tition, a modern fairy tale campaign encouraging voter participation through partnerships with “When We All Vote” and “She Should Run.”

Whether she’s telling a local story or building visibility for a brand, Davenport brings a thoughtful, human-first approach grounded in creativity, clarity, and care.
